You guys rock for sending me all the recipes. Project Feed Supernana will officially commence this Sunday. I will brave the wilds of the Farmer's Market and come back with some good stuff (Eggplant anyone? Thanks Sparrow!).
Don't expect too much too soon. Just as I decided to establish a routine, I also decided to move. oops. Given that my apartment will not be ready until March 1st and my lease is up Feb. 1st, I will be couch surfing for a month. I hope to wow my hosts with my new recipes and I promise to keep you updated with pictures and whatnot.
This is going to be fun! You also have the stories of my impending downsizing to look forward to, as I have promised myself (on the advice of a dear friend) not to let anything, useless, broken, or bad into my new place.
Dear readers, this has proven to be the start of very eventful year.
Now for all of you who read dear Savvy's blog. . . we need to start the campaign to get Savvy here in the spring to help me create a beautiful living space and bring good vibes back to Southern Cali. Any ideas?
La Petite Creole is back. The true account of a woman in her thirties starting over. AGAIN!

Another Sunday . . .
I awoke to a terrible headache and another head cold. Those pesky kids just keep getting to me. I enjoyed my morning reading the newspaper and wandering the stalls of my neighborhood Farmer's Market.
After watching the documentary Food Inc. with my students last month, I couldn't help but be inspired to buy a ton of fresh , locally grown vegetables. What stopped me in my tracks of course is the truth: i have no idea what to do with them. I am on a mission to improve my quality of life. I recently discovered that I live like a man. A 50 year old single man who doesn't cook or clean much and has a life devoted to well . . .not much outside of work ( a certain man from Savannah who is now retired comes to mind. . . ).
True, I have friends and family that I spend time with. But there is, overall, no routine to my life. I have nothing to ground me. I thought that by cooking and setting up a nice home, I would at least have some reason to keep organized and maintain a little order in my life. I am, dear friends, a gypsy girl trying to find some structure.
My little apartment feels very much like a hotel. It is not nearly as bad as George Clooney's apartment in Up in the Air, but not too far off. I have stuff. Stuff I don't care about or use, but it keeps the place from being totally empty.
Given that I am on a limited budget, I decided that walking to the beach every weekend was a good way to establish routine. So that gets me two days. . .
Anyway, back to the food. I can't cook, I have limited funds, BUT I live in a great place for cheap healthy food and I'm pretty smart. So here's the challenge: send me stuff to cook. Easy, idiot proof and inexpensive are my only parameters. I never seem to get too invested in the recipes in the magazines that claim to be simple. I want fun stuff that's easy that I can bring into my regular everyday life. Mind you, I'm single, so I don't need to make elaborate dishes that can feed an army. Lets' just get me cooking.
And maybe, just maybe, I'll post some pictures.

I told 2009 to move out and not call me ever again.
So here it is the first post of the new year. I was inspired by my lovely Mama to write something. There are a great many changes in the life of Supernana. My dear brother is getting married to my dear friend, which works out well for all parties involved. I am happy to be on the groom's side though, as all I have to do is plan the surf trip bachelor party. Yes, I am for the second time in my life, serving as a "Best Man." Nice. No rings, flowers or dresses to worry about.
The New Year's Eve party was nice, as he proposed at midnight. I brought by partner in crime these days, a rather fabulous new friend Rebbecca. Becs and I decided to go the party together so we could start the year surrounded by love, rather than the usual bitterness and blah that single women in their thirties are prone to during holiday festivities.
In other news, the job situation is looking up, but I can't quite talk about it yet since I'm still sworn to secrecy. I am excited and good things are coming.
I'm on a quest to do new things each week in order to keep some perspective on my life and not go crazy. This week, I started my days with a disco dance party in my apartment and my car. Today I it was ABBA. It helped to be in a good mood before facing the kiddies and their ever changing teenage dramas. And I am quite sure I provided some much needed amusement for people in morning LA traffic.
Additionally, I have been inspired by AJ Jacobs and his Rationality Project. Check it out if you are interested. (you will have to google it, as the link does not want to work or copy and paste http://www.esquire.com/features/rationality-project-1108)
After a wild romp through my subconscious, I discovered that I have a great deal of irrational feelings an responses to things. I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers!

And the award goes to. . . .
Having survived my first single girl Christmas since, um, the 90's, I am exhausted. In a very "emotional cutter" kinda way, I listened to sad sad songs on Christmas day and cried all the way to dinner. Oh well. I certainly would win the award for "Most Dramatic Holiday Cry", if that were a category for the Life Awards. Which I think I should start. Maybe monthly, you know, give away awards for the best life moments like "Best Innapropriate Cell Phone Fight In a Public Place"," "Best Car Cry," or my favorite "Best Unfeasible Romantic Fantasy Thought Up While Eating Alone or Sitting in Empty Apartment." Perhaps this will be my new venture.
In actuality, Christmas wasn't that bad, despite the self imposed emotional stupidity. I went to the movies with everyone, including Bird, which was probably a mistake, as it gave me a reason to pretend I had a relationship. Although I am on my self imposed "man fast" I have been cheating when it comes to The Bird. Oh well. That is an entire blog in and of itself. . .
Perhaps I need to be like Julie Powell and blog about 365 Days of something. . living man free, maybe. Right, just what the blogoshere needs another self obsessed single thirty something.
Or perhaps I will do 365 days of talking about other people and doing other things. That would be interesting. I am already more than halfway through my 365 days of continuous sobriety, but I don't find that compelling to write about.
Obviously I need something. I have a desire to rebuild and to create, but I'm not sure what to do. Creating myself, as it were, is just not that interesting. I stand in awe at women my age who can create an entire career based on themselves. How did Candance Bushnell do it? Perhaps it's that I am just not that excited about me. Hmmm. food for thought.
Project Supernana has commenced. By the end of 2010 I will have some idea who I am and what makes me happy. The whole point of this thing was starting over. I have no idea how to do that...

Fuck December
Yeah, I said it. The only good things that happen this month are Mom's birthday and the end of the worst year ever.
Good things are coming, I can feel it. In the in between time, I'm staying . . . alive. Not quite positive, but alive.

What I want to say is...
a lot. But I can't. I'm being positive and I don't want to make anyone cry. But when the results come back and everything is fine, I'll tell you about tonight.
