The world as of late has seemed so strange and beautiful. I am in a weird place vis-a-vis my career and well, pretty much everything else. But it doesn't feel bad.
More on all of that later.
Highlights from time away from the blogging machine:
I directed a play. Which was quite exhausting and as usual was over much too quickly, but I got to see people grow and make interesting choices, AND I had fun with the sound cues.
I met an over privileged guy named "Baron" no really that's his name, but I added the quotes because it just doesn't seem real. I listened to him rant and rave about the world from his pricey Marina Del Rey Apartment about repealing the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and once again was thankful to not be rich and stupid.
Talked politics and job possibilities with and Ethiopian philanthropist the same day I got yelled at for not having enough student work on my walls, made a word tree out of butcher paper, listened to a marching band and got offered a job in Tanzania.
My life is so weird.
La Petite Creole is back. The true account of a woman in her thirties starting over. AGAIN!

See how you are?!
So I was talking to one of my kids today and she was being a typical sophomore in college, complaining about something when I said (just like my mother), "See how you are?"
The minute the words came out of my mouth, I realized that I never understood when my mother said them to me, but somehow it was the only response that her outburst warranted. It was the perfect thing to say and it stopped my kid in her tracks.
I feel as if I crossed over to true parenthood. I was able to say some nonsense phrase that made sense to me and seemed entirely appropriate just to illustrate that she was wrong and I was right. The best part was that I didn't even have to defend myself. I cracked the parent code!
She of course responded with,"What?!" And I said,"Just think about it," punctuated with a disapproving "mmm-hmm."
Ha! Mom :1 Kid:0

Happy Birthday Big Brother!
My favorite guy taught me how to swim, stopped me from dying when I couldn't figure out to use the brakes on my bike, lied to my parents when I was a stupid teenager, taught me that greasy food is the best cure for a hangover, took me shooting on my birthday, kept me sane when I was crazy, taught me how to surf, held my head when I cried, listened to me when I said not to hurt people, felt my anger for me, told me he was proud of me, kept me safe, and fell in love with the best girl on earth. I hope he has the best day ever.
Happy Birthday dude.
-love,
your little buddy.

Solving the AIDS crisis in Africa vs. Homecoming parades
These are the two things on my mind right now. I hope I get the new job.
