Hello Again

Someone keeps texting me. Someone from thepast. Why can't people just stay in the past. Today is an anniversary of sorts. In that, one day a long time ago, I made a very bad choice to walk down an aisle. HMMM. WHY WON'T THEY LEAVE ME BE?

Summer. . .why can't it last forever?

I had pictures up, but then I got nervous.
The sentiment is still there.

I think Gavin Newsome hates me.

So we're back at the Tropics, the best place on earth as far as I'm concerned, after a very bizarre trip. We tried to go to go to San Francisco after a quick stop in San Jose, but that didn't work out so well. I'll start from the beginning:
After Stanford, where we learned we were sleeping above one of three nuclear testing facilities in the world at the Stanford linear Accelerated Center, we drove to San Jose for a training I was doing. It started there, the craziness. As we didn't have a credit card (they have been lost) we had to call mama and get her to verify over the phone that we could stay there using her card and pay in cash when we left. Of course we asked them about this when we made the reservation, but they neglected to tell us we actually needed a credit card.

Anyway, we finally got upstairs but couldn't rest as I needed to make a million copies for my presentation, and eat, and buy folders, and make said folders pretty to pass out to my audience. Long story short, there was a typo on one page, no copy shop open and time was running out. Thankfully, we found a little copy shop and they let us make a ton of copies. San Jose people are really nice. We finally had dinner and some ice cream only to get home and discover that I had left the power plug for the computer somewhere on the Stanford campus. (relax Mr. Moose, we bought you another one). Needless to say I freaked out.

The whole point of going to on this trip was this presentation. The whole point of borrowing a computer was to make this presentation. Just before I fell on the floor in a heap of tears, Mr. ATL got on his computer and found an Apple store that was still open for a half an hour. He jumped into a cab, flew to the store, and saved the day. While he was gone I consoled myself by making the best possible presentation binders in the world.
So that happened.
The presentation was wonderful. I was awesome and everybody wants me to come back. So yeah me.

We left San Jose in good spirits ready to finally start vacation and see San Francisco and. . . we hit traffic. Lots and lots of traffic. We still managed to have fun and laugh all the way to the Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin. At this point I was ready to collapse. We happily ran in to the hotel, only to find that they wouldn't let us stay because, wait for it, we didn't have a credit card. The woman manger was mean to me and implied that I was trying to cheat her out of her stinky stupid little room. So we left. Then I cried. And cried. And cried.

I ended up driving Mr. ATL around SF and doing a mini tour, hey look over there through that fog, it's the Golden Gate, there's Coit Tower, oh hey, Alcatraz, there's my old apartment, there's the best coffee place ever, there's the Presido, there's the freeway! Let's GO!
We tried to stop at my favorite coffee place, but we couldn't find parking and that was it. SF is not mine. I DO NOT BELONG THERE! And yes, Gavin Newsome is somehow behind all of this.

We tried like mad to leave the city, only to come to more traffic on the 80, so we looped around and headed for the 101. At this point I had been driving for three and half hours. We tried to make it to LA, but I got too tired. Thanks to the kindness of the manager at the Gilroy INN, I finally got a good night's rest.

We woke up in Gilroy and headed down the 101 only to get hit by a truck and get a speeding ticket. Somehow though, this was the best road trip of my life. I am in the best mood ever and I love my life. I never said that when I lived in the city by the bay.

Stanford . . .or Lessons we learned on the 24th floor

Blogging here from that great big Mecca of intelligence and weirdness aka Stanford University. Mr. ATL and I are presently at a conference. Well I am, he's just hanging out. I am having a good time with my teacher friends. We had an interesting discussion about blackness and how we feel our population is not represented in the media and what to do about it. I was happy to hear educatated people of color discuss the same issues as I do in the same fashion. I'm not sure how I mean that. I guess I am inundated at school with ignorance, on all sides. It was refreshing to be with people I work with, albeit not directly, and agree. I am getting some hope back.
Speaking of hope. Mr ATL came home, we had a wonderful drive up here with very hopeful meaningful conversations. All I can say is both my mother and The Politica were right. I can move on. Everything is still the same despite my near fatal screw up. That is the lesson I learned on the 24th floor. And yes, Politica, the view was worth learning that.

The Kid Here

SO, seeing that the title of the post below is "grammatically incorrect" as The Mom says, I have to let the people of the bloggerworld know that I, The Kid wrote that. She's all in MommyLand right now with the Best baby of LIFE also known as the Little Man. He said Hi You back to her! Along with his first bath in the tub! He flirted with other baby girls in the unknown baby language. The life is happy over here in the Tropics.

The Best Day OF LIFE!
